Welcome to SAIL and the 2017-2018 School Year!
On behalf of the entire staff, I am delighted to welcome everyone to the Surrey Academy of Innovative Learning (SAIL). I am very excited about this upcoming year, as it will see us embark on another year of something extraordinary for your child’s education.
I hope that everyone has spent a summer of relaxation and renewal. Many of our teaching staff have attended professional development and came into school to work on their programs to ensure that your child will have an excellent educational experience.
For the last two years, we had remarkable growth and change. We thank you, the parents and students for both the growth and change. It is your feedback to the teachers and administration that allow us to adjust “our sails” to accommodate your comments. We are most appreciative.
I believe, last year we addressed many of our school plan inquiry questions. Our school plan is now public (https://surreylearningbydesign.ca/school-plans/) and we will review our 2017-18 inquiry questions throughout this coming year with parents at the Parent Advisory Council.
You, our parents, are our best marketers and advocates of SAIL. You have formed an active Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and continue to support our work and share the good work we are doing with other families. We appreciate this continued support and we will continue to ask you for your advocacy.
Learning Without Limits is our Vision Statement (and our tag line). The SAIL staff wants to give your child the best educational experience possible. To provide a sound education for your child, we need to have direct communication between teacher, student, and parent.
With that end in mind, we are looking forward to implementing our new SAILtoGo App this year. We ask that all students and parents download the App to help with better communication. Teachers are receiving professional development on the SAILtoGo App, and the teachers will share their knowledge of the app with their students.
We will constantly be looking to improve on how we communicate with our students and parents. The app, alongside our acclaimed website www.sailacademy.ca, Twitter feed (@36sail), teacher’s emails, and other online tools (e.g. Moodle, Blogs, Facebook, Freshgrade, MyEducation) should help keep you and your child informed about what is going on at SAIL.
