Online Courses

Online learning is an integral part of the Surrey Academy of Innovative Learning (SAIL). All our courses are fully accredited BC Ministry of Education courses that have online support as well as face-to-face teacher guidance. As one of our learners, you can either cross enrolled with us from your home school or choose our COMPASS program which allows us to be your home school.

GRADE 8 & 9 COURSES

For grade 8 & 9 courses, all students from the  Surrey School District are required to have approval from your school Principal before you can enrol in a grade 8 & 9 online course at SAIL.

Course Timelines & Report Cards:

Costs

There are NO tuition costs to Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrants residing in BC, including full-time students, part-time students (cross-enrolled – attending another secondary school in British Columbia at the same time that they take a course with Sail Online), and non- graduated adults.

Enrolment for full-time Grade 8 and 9 students in our COMPASS Program is free. Grade 8 and Grade 9 students may be cross-enrolled from another district. Grade 8 & 9 students from Surrey may be cross enrolled with special permission from their home school.

International students attending Surrey Public schools are eligible to take courses at a cost of $1000.00 per course.  There is an additional fee for international students outside the district. Graduated adults are eligible to apply for certain courses for free. Call SAIL for more info.

Exam Invigilation:

Exam invigilation is done through your course teacher. Please contact your teacher for information on how and where you can complete your assessments. Note that our teachers are well prepared to have you complete assessments in various forms and styles.

Alternate Site InvigilationIf you are eligible, you can have your exam invigilated at an alternate site. To apply, you must fill out our “SAIL Exam Invigilation Request Form” and submit it for approval through our office.

Achieving Success Online:

A successful Online Learner is Motivation, Connected, & Persistent. Online learning is different than traditional face-to-face learning. There is both a physical separation and a social gap between students and teachers. Setting timelines and having frequent communication with instructors and is key to success.

  • Maintain open communication channels with parents and students.
  • Respond to student/parent communications in a timely manner.
  • Review teaching practices and strategies, seeking innovative ways to increase student achievement.

  • Self-motivated & Goal Oriented.
  • Great Time Managers.
  • Set personal goals and have realistic timelines.
  • Visual learners.
  • Computer literate.
  • Complete coursework, assignments, tests, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Log in to the course on a regular basis and make continuous progress in the coursework.
  • Maintain contact with their instructor and keep active in the course.
  • Become familiar with all the structures of their online course.
  • Adhere to the School Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity policy.
